Spaniel Training - Harry Hardwick
While enjoying a distinguished career in the fire service Harry hardwick continued to train Spaniels for more than 30 years and has trained, handled and made up several field trial champions. He has represented England in the GunDog Working Tests at the C.L.A Game Fair for many years and has won this event three times with three different dogs. Harry Hardwick believes in training spaniels on game from their veru early days and in this way achieves a free hunting dog suitable for both field trials and as an ideal shooting companion for guns and beaters alike. All his field trial dogs frequently accompany him throughout the shooting season. Spaniels, in general, have developed a softer temperament in the last few years and Harry Hardwick continually amends his training methods to reflect these changes. Together with Carl Colclough he discusses the modern approach to training young spaniels. In this programme he works with several young dogs of varying ages and temperament and compares and contrasts their different charecters. He believes that you must never rush the training programme, always seeking to bring out their natural abilities and never progressing until the dog is ready to move on. Many take to their training easily but sometimes do not go according to plan and Harry Hardwick is able to offer suggestions to remedy a number of faults that may develop. By following his instruction and advise it is possible to train your young spaniel to become an asset on any shooting day and an exciting field trial competitor.
